Hanoi Street Food Tour with Buffalo Joe
We’ll meet at your hotel to start the tour, you can share with me your to-try-foods then we eat as we walk in the Old Quarter.
In an example itinerary, we walk to Hàng Bè market to try some "nộm bò khô" (green papaya and beef jerky salad) and "bánh khúc" (steamed sticky rice cake), both are well known for their authentic flavors. Then head to one of the oldest coffee shops in town to try the egg coffee. Visit a local family to get to know about the life of a Hanoian, chat with them over a cup of tea and some of their green bean cakes, which are traditionally offered when they are welcoming dear guests.
Continue our walk along the narrow streets to explore the articles of daily necessity, such as fresh produces from the countryside or strange food items set available on many local’s door steps. Traverse a wholesale market while heading down to its busy food lane, where we stop and pull up a plastic chair to try some "bánh tôm" (shrimp cakes), one of the street delicacies of Hanoi. Freshwater shrimps are bathed in flour with eggs and put in a deep-frying pan, hence the cakes are beautiful, fragrant and crispy.
Our next dishes to savor are "bánh mì" (Vietnamese baguette) and "bún chả" (noodle and grilled pork in fish sauce), then we try some "bia hơi" with local snacks such as "nem chua" and “lạc rang”. See how this tour looks like.
